OpenWorm Browser launches; explore C. elegans in 3D

Cell identification and anatomical studies just got easier with the first release of the OpenWorm Browser from the OpenWorm Project. Zoom, rotate, and browse your way through C. elegans anatomy. Peel away layers to reveal concealed structures. Trace the connectivity of the nervous system. You really should check it out.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the pointer! Looks like our server is overwhelmed with the interest right now — we’re upgrading our backend to support the interest — back up soon!

    Hi Stephen,

Looks like good progress for the OpenWorm project!

I’m having trouble figuring out how to pan through the worm, though. Whenever I click and move my mouse around, it always rotates. And if I use the arrows at the upper left, it also rotates the worm. How do I pan?

    Hi Nikhil,

panning through the worm horizontally is not supported at the moment. We are building it on top of the open-3d-viewer [ http://code.google.com/p/open-3d-viewer/ ] so that’s functionality we get out of the box.

It is not panning, but I find that a convenient way to explore stuff at the moment is to select single cells; the will be centered on the selected item and will rotate around it when you drag the mouse. You can also try pinning a selected cell then pick another one.
