WormBase updated to the WS270 release

Alliance orthologs

Starting from WS270 we are using the Alliance of Genome Resources for orthologs between model organism genes. This should be more comprehensive and include the latest data from our sister databases.

VC2010 genome

An assembly and geneset of the VC2010 C.elegans strain has been added and work is ongoing to improve the integration and display of strain specific data. Additionally more mappings of N2 annotation will be included in future releases.

SGD turns 25!

25 years ago the SGD (The Saccharomyces Genome Database) went online.  Happy Birthday SGD!

SGD provides comprehensive integrated biological information for the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae along with search and analysis tools to explore these data, enabling the discovery of functional relationships between sequence and gene products in fungi and higher organisms.

WormBase collaborates with SGD and several other model organism databases to facilitate data harmonization and cross-species searches at the Alliance of Genome Resources.  Check it out!

Integrated model organism data at the Alliance of Genome Resources

It is now possible to view integrated data from six different Model Organism Databases (MODs) and the Gene Ontology (GO) Consortium at the Alliance of Genome Resources (Alliance).  One can view gene descriptions, disease model data, orthology data, gene expression data and much more for the six major model organisms (yeast, worm, fly, zebrafish, mouse, rat) as well as human data on gene pages at the Alliance.   You can search by gene, disease or a GO term and be taken to a page where you will find integrated views of data relevant to all of the above mentioned organisms.   For example, searching by a human disease name at the Alliance will take you to a disease page where you can find data related to disease models from the six organisms. Similar integrated views are also available for orthology data for any given gene on a gene page.  The Alliance is a work in progress and will host even more data in the days to come. Check it out!

Alliance of Genome Resources Opens Door with Version 1.0 Release

The Alliance of Genome Resources (the Alliance) announces the release of the Alliance of Genome Resources website 1.0 – providing unified access to comparative genetics and genomics data from the Alliance data resources (www.alliancegenome.org). The Alliance brings together the efforts of the major National Institutes of Health NHGRI-funded Model Organism Database (MOD) groups, and the Gene Ontology Consortium, in a synergistic integration of expertly-curated information about the functioning of cellular systems. Our focus is to facilitate the use of these data towards better understanding of human biology and disease.

Created during the early days of the Human Genome Project, and in support of the major experimental models for human biology, the MODs currently included in the Alliance are the Saccharomyces Genome Database (SGD), FlyBase, WormBase, Mouse Genome Database (MGD), Rat Genome Database (RGD), and Zebrafish Information Network (ZFIN).  In addition, the Alliance includes the Gene Ontology (GO) Consortium. Now these groups will merge key activities and data representations, coordinating data retrieval and analysis, within a comparative perspective. Other MODs and related resources will be added to the Alliance going forward.

As part of this initial release, Alliance working groups have focused on the ability to easily access pages that summarize details of Genes and Diseases, with extensive representation of orthology data, and with access to multi-track JBrowse capabilities primarily for visualization of sequence data. Users recover gene details, functional information, and disease associations within a comparative perspective. As the integration of the MOD and GO teams progresses with inclusion of additional data, the vision going forward includes the incorporation of other model organism information resources and other bioinformatic nodes within a common data platform, facilitating data recovery, analysis, and integration.
